The Animas is in full runoff mode now and fishing will be slow until flows drop. Try big black or flashy streamers tight to the banks or eddy lines. In the evening, toss a elk hair Caddis or stimulator along the edges of the banks. Twitching these dries downstream right up against the banks can sometimes provoke a take.

The Animas has been fishing well lately. Flows are up a little and the River has gotten a little dirty here and there, but is running clear most days. Small baetis emergers sizes 16-20, and midges 18-20, have been producing fish. Killer mayfly and STD baetis have been my go to in size 18. Size 18 black zebra midges with a silver bead have also been working well. For the meat chuckers out there black seems to be the color of choice, with plenty of nice fish coming to hand after falling for big sex dungeon style streamers.
